Start the shopping list for the fireplace renovation by determining which layers of the enclosure need to be replaced. The finishing board, insulation, and supporting structure serve different purposes. Count the sheets only once you know the layout of the entire enclosure, the fireplace insert requirements, and the method of heat dissipation.
Measure the enclosure, but also check the documentation
Record the dimensions of the panels, corners, and ventilation openings. Mark the positions of the doors, grilles, and areas requiring service access. During remodeling, the clearances and ventilation surfaces recommended for a specific device are also important.
Vitcas HT fireboard is a high-temperature board that does not contain gypsum, used in certain finishing systems. Do not assume that a single sheet will replace the entire fireplace insulation or allow the distance from the wood to be reduced. This is determined by the proper installation layout.
Outline the fastening before ordering the adhesive.
Check whether the boards are to be attached to the existing wall or to the designed structure. The substrate must be stable, and the chosen method must comply with the board instructions. Do not plan to hide loose plaster under new sheets.
Board Adhesive BA and adhesive HB60 have specific methods of application. The choice depends, among other things, on the flatness of the substrate and the required fastening layout. In the cost estimate, record not only the amount of adhesive but also the required surface preparation and any mechanical elements.
The material list should include all layers.
- Boards: format, number of sheets, and layout of cuts, taking into account openings.
- Fastening: chosen adhesive, substrate preparation, and components provided in the system.
- Connections: method of making joints, corners, and areas subjected to thermal stress.
- Finishing: compatible primer and final layer, for example Vitcas HRP where it is permitted.
At the end, plan the drying time and the first heating. Renovation done just before the needed firing can easily be interrupted too early. It is better to set the start-up date together with the contractor before you buy materials and dismantle the existing casing.
